NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center has been selected as one of the city’s Top Workplaces by The Times-Picayune|The Advocate. This is the fourth time the Convention Center has received the prestigious honor.
The Top Workplaces are determined based solely on the results of an employee feedback survey administered by Energage, LLS (formerly Workplace Dynamics), a leading provider of technology-based employee engagement tools. Several aspects of the workplace culture were measured, including Alignment, Execution, and Connection.
Convention Center Boulevard, from Julia Street to lake-bound Calliope Street will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at dawn on Monday, August 26 until dusk on Sunday, September 1, to accommodate Entergy’s relocation of existing utility poles. Motorists are encouraged to take other routes into and out of the Central Business District during this period. Designated crosswalks on Convention Center Boulevard for pedestrians will remain open.

The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center conducted a Fire Drill on August 8 in cooperation with the New Orleans Fire Department and New Orleans Emergency Medical Services. The 350 staff members of the Convention Center participated in the exercise in order to demonstrate their understanding of emergency evacuation procedures. The outcome of the exercise was to enhance communication systems, strengthening intra- and inter-agency coordination and continue to create and maintain a safe environment for internal and external customers.
Staff at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center made a long-lasting memory for a 13-year-old boy scheduled to perform at Delta Sigma Theta’s 54th National Convention after the show was suspended because of the threat posed by Hurricane Barry.

The 54th Annual National Convention of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will be suspending their activities today at approximately 1:00 p.m. in response to the impending tropical storm. The Sorority had convened approximately 15,000 members on Thursday, and had activities planned through Sunday. The New Orleans Police Department and Louisiana State Police will implement a traffic plan for the upcoming Essence Festival. Events will be held in the Convention Center from 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. starting Friday, July 5 through Sunday, July 7. Heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic is expected for the event.
