New Orleans Tourism Industry to Celebrate Global Meetings Industry Day at New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center

Industry Leader Don Freeman to Keynote

New Orleans will join cities across the globe in celebrating the impact of meetings and live events on Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) Thursday, April 6, 2017. The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau along with MPI Gulf States Chapter invite all to attend a special luncheon, featuring an address by industry icon Donald S. (Don) Freeman, Jr., Chairman of Freeman, at the Convention Center.

Under Don Freeman’s leadership, Freeman has grown to become the world’s largest provider of brand experiences. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Don was commissioned and served in the Supply Corps for four years. During his 30+ years leading Freeman, Don successfully built and maintained Freeman’s reputation for innovation, leadership, creativity, and integrity. He accomplished this through his vast industry expertise, which today allows him to serve as a trusted advisor to both the company’s current senior leadership and next generation of talent.

Freeman’s relationships in the industry are unmatched, and he is recognized and respected as a true thought leader. Among his numerous acknowledgements, he is a proud member of the Convention Industry Council’s Hall of Leaders and has received the Trade Show Exhibitors Association Distinguished Service Award and the Professional Convention Management Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Lead by the industry advocacy coalition Meetings Mean Business (MMB), GMID 2017 will continue to showcase the real impact that business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows and exhibitions have on people, business and communities. MMB joins forces with the Convention Industry Council (CIC), U.S. Travel Association, Meeting Professionals International (MPI), Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), Society for Incentive Travel Excellence(SITE), COCAL and other groups. In one united voice they will advocate for the industry, showing that meetings make a difference no matter the location.

According to Karen Kotowski, CEO of Convention Industry Council, “GMID 2017 will continue to showcase the industry’s strength and demonstrate the tremendous value of face-to-face meetings in communities in every corner of the globe.”

International Congress and Convention Association President Nina Freysen-Pretorius added, “GMID helps generate widespread conversation about some of our industry’s most critical issues. It’s especially important to discuss these issues and increase awareness of the meetings industry internationally to enable continued growth and ensure that people all around the world embrace the benefits of in-person meetings.”
