Paul O’Connell Promoted to Director of IT Services

09/16/2009

Paul O’Connell has been promoted to the position of Director of IT Services of the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center – the sixth largest convention center in the nation. In his new position he will oversee the in-house MIS Department, as well as ensure quality internet & telephone services for convention center events. O’Connell will continue to play an active role in developing and maintaining short and long term technology plans for the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

O’Connell recently joined the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center’s staff April 2009 as Assistant Director of Production and Technology Services.  While in his position he assisted in putting in place the use of electronic signage outside all of the facility’s meeting rooms. He also started and will continue to assist in upgrading the fiber backbone and wireless access points in the building. His “green” experience came into play while he continues to work towards getting all of the facility’s exterior lighting transferred to LED lighting and upgrading the facility’s board room to accommodate paperless board meetings. In the coming months, O’Connell and his team plan to run New OrleansTelevision’s signal to the facility’s I-Cove monitors.

O’Connell’s 20 years of experience in the convention industry also includes serving as Director of Operations at David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. There he built a strong knowledge of complying with gold standard “green” building requirements.

He also held positions at SMG Corporate Offices in Philadelphia, Savannah International Trade & Convention Center, SMG, and Hynes Convention Center.
