Fleur de Lis Ambassadors Say “Bienvenue” to Convention Center Guests

03/10/2009

In New Orleans, a city with a solid French heritage, residents often welcome guests to their home by saying, “Bienvenue à la Maison” or simply “Bienvenue,” which means “welcome to our home” (or “welcome”).

At the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, guests are welcomed to the facility with the same warm hospitality you’d receive at a relative’s home.

The Center recently implemented a team of greeters, named Fleur de Lis Ambassadors for the French symbol that has become synonymous with New Orleans. The Ambassadors are stationed throughout the Convention Center lobby to greet visitors upon arrival and direct them to registration desks and meeting rooms in the sprawling 3.1 million square foot facility.

And as if their smiling faces weren’t enough of an attention-getter, the Fleur de Lis Ambassadors are attired in the traditional colors of Mardi Gras: their royal purple blazers are adorned with large green and gold "ASK ME" buttons.

Bob Johnson, the Convention Center’s president/general manager, said that the Fleur de Lis Ambassador program has been very well-received by show managers and attendees alike.

“We want all of our attendees to feel especially welcome in the city and in the Convention Center, so that they carry home their first-hand experiences of our legendary Southern hospitality.”
