Eventful Week at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center

10/27/2009

It’s been a particularly eventful week at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center: three events were staged simultaneously and utilized nearly all of the Center’s 1.1 million square feet of contiguous exhibit space, plus both 30,000+ square foot ballrooms, the 4,000 seat theater, and a significant block of the 140 meeting rooms.

The American Association of Blood Banks meeting, which began Monday in Halls G-J, drew approximately 5,000 attendees, while the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, which also opened Monday, used Halls D-E, with a projected attendance of 3,000. The National Minority Supplier Development Council rounded out the fast-paced week in Halls A-C, with attendance of nearly 7,000.

The three meetings resulted in 37,326 hotel roomnights and created more $18,862,350 economic impact for the region from the 15,000 out-of-state attendees.

“It’s exciting to have the entire building full of activity. This economic engine is running on all cylinders,” said Bob Johnson, president/general manager.
